Life At NA

Wow!

Ok. My name's Dudley if you don't already know me by now. I am a new student or "student going to Newark Academy" since this is May. Anyways, just want to say welcome to my blog and I hope that my experiences will be of help to you.

First things first. THE APPLICATION!!! DUM DUM DUMMMMM! (Hahaha). The NA application is really intimidating at first, but you have to stay calm and think clearly when writing your responses. For me, the application was a total disaster at first. I kept on erasing and erasing and I couldn't find the right words to say what I was thinking. My advice to you is to get a separate sheet of paper and jot down your ideas BEFORE you put it on the application. This will make it less stressful and you can erase as much as you want without ruining the application. It also makes your application look more professional if you don't have all of these eraser marks on it.

When I was filling out my application, I had to really look back on what I did in the past and what I'm doing now to put on it. You should do the same. Try to put down things that were most important to you and that you really enjoyed doing. And also put down things that you tried such as an instrument. Also, don't be scared and go into a coma if you have nothing to put for some areas. There is no way you can have a life and do each and every one of those things(just kidding). It's alright. They won't penalize you for it.

Moving on..... After I finished my application it was time to mail it out. I hoped and prayed that it would go through and thank goodness it did. After I got the application out of the way, I just relaxed and went to school to get the good grades that NA is looking for. hahahaha.. Seriously. My advice to you is to work your butt off during the first semester of the year prior to you getting in because that's the semester they look at. They also look at you last year's standardized test scores and grades. My grades last year weren't so hot. It's a miracle how I got in.

Oh! I almost forgot. The open house! ( This was weeks before I did my application)That was a great experience. It was the first time I was actually on Newark Academy grounds. So anyways, I walk in and two ladies handed me a thick folder and a name tag that I had to write my name on. My sister accompanied me to the open house so she had to do the same. So after we received our name tags, we walked to the admissions offices. We were kind of early so we just started to stuff our faces with muffins and orange juice. (sigh.. Good old NA)

After we had something to eat, all of the parents and their children started arriving. So I started mingling with some of the other prospective students to find out a little bit about them. Then the phenomenal MS. Sigrist walks out with the all-mighty Ms. Riegelman to welcome us. So here was Ms. Sigrist, cracking jokes up on the mini podium and I'm sitting there laughing my head off. (She's hilarious!!!) Then she stepped down and she walked towards my direction and then we started talking. She asked me all of these questions and I just answered them while stuttering. I was a nervous reck! But we were having some fun and she got to know me really well. I believe that's the point where we became really good friends. I Hope Ms. Sigrist is reading this ;)

After our talk with her, we all headed over to a classroom where we were greeted by Mr. Taylor and about 15 current NA students(they were with us from the start) We were introduced to smart boards which were really cool. Then they gave us an introduction to NA life, sports, and clubs the students were involved in. I enjoyed hearing about the clubs because they all sounded so exciting. After the introduction, they showed us a video of spirit week which told me that I was definitely going to go to NA. The kids on the video looked as if they were having lots of fun. (sigh... Just four more months till I finally go there.)

After our intro... We had a tour which was lead by three current students. I remember one of them which was Binger. He seemed fun and I think we're going to be friends for a long time. We split up into a group of about 10(I can't recall) and we were off. Going through the school, I was pleased with what I saw. I also felt as if I were already attending the school. See, the thing about NA is that they make you feel like part of a family. There's this warm inviting feeling about going there and that's what attracted me to this school.

After our tour we arrived back in front of the admissions offices and we were free to go home. I left there begging to come back. LOL(laugh out loud... I'm going to use this phrase a lot in my blog)
